I’m Maddy, the owner and creator of our location. Together with my husband, Ben, I have spent the past few years transforming this much-loved family home in the Surrey Hills into a warm, welcoming and versatile space for people to gather, stay, create and connect.
With a background in yoga and wellness, and over 17 years of teaching experience, I have always been drawn to creating spaces that feel calm, beautiful and authentic. Kilnhanger has evolved from that same vision — a place that combines the character and charm of a traditional English country home with a relaxed, contemporary feel.
We live here with our family, and the property is very much a working, lived-in home rather than a traditional shoot location. I think this is part of what gives it its unique character. The interiors are personal, warm and layered, while the surrounding gardens, woodland, fields and wider Surrey Hills landscape offer a wealth of natural backdrops and visual possibilities.
Over time, our location has grown into a place for yoga retreats, wellness events, private celebrations, creative workshops and gatherings, as well as a location for photography and film. I love the idea of opening the property up to photographers, filmmakers, brands and creative teams who are looking for somewhere with a genuine sense of place, beautiful natural light and a relaxed, authentic atmosphere.
I’m passionate about hospitality, design, food, nature and creating memorable experiences. Whether it’s a quiet moment in the garden, a beautifully styled table in the kitchen, a yoga class in the studio or a fashion shoot amongst the woodland and countryside, our home offers a unique combination of spaces, textures and settings — all within one very special place.
