About Black House – GU5

A Wabi Sabi, Scandi inspired black house, full of natural textures and tones that create an easy to live with, calming space. Full of unique pieces of furniture, props and home accessories, this house is made up of interesting corners and spaces to shoot in. Interesting features and textures include tumbled limestone parquet flooring, micro-cement flooring, clay plaster walls from Clayworks and Bauwerk limewash paint.

A beautiful open plan kitchen, dining and living space is double height and full of light with multiple picture windows that look out onto views of trees and sky. Situated on the edge of countryside and woodland and with a large wild garden.

Meet your host

Hi, I’m Anna owner of The Black House and owner and founder of brands ALSO Home and Elä Life. I’ve spent my career designing and creating homewares for many high street retailers and brands and the last 16 years designing for my own brand ALSO Home. I have a wealth of experience, designing, sourcing and developing products and brands. This experience helped when we renovated our 1960’s bungalow on a hill in Surrey. I’ve always been inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese design and used this love of these two cultures to inspire our Scandi Black House. Married to Jeff @jeffschmidt.art another talented creative, he is slowly filling our home with his art!
