About

Slow Living – DE56

Located in a bustling village five miles north of Derby city, our home maintains a wealth of original features typical of its Victorian era, including two (now ornamental) fireplaces, original overhead Sheila maid suspended above our hardworking Aga and flagstones underfoot to the kitchen. The entire ground floor is available for location shoots, along with the garden room, cobbled courtyard and gardens.   A front to back hallway runs centrally through the property with stairs off, whilst the spacious living kitchen boasts floor to ceiling original cupboards, the aforementioned Aga and large farmhouse dining table comfortably seating between 10-12. Double critall style steel doors to the rear of the kitchen open onto a capacious Mediterranean style cobbled courtyard and gardens beyond.   A wet room is accessed off the back kitchen, and there are two reception rooms located to the front and rear of the property. The established gardens, retained by a Victorian red brick wall and with an abundance of shrubs & trees climb to a further patio terrace and timber clad garden room beyond. With two sets of arched double doors, reclaimed parquet flooring and exposed douglas fir trusses to the ceiling, this charming space affords a magical light across any day of a year with wonderful views.   The property has been sympathetically restored across the last decade, yet retains an air of unkemptness; worn patina, aged tiles underfoot, vintage furnishings, slubby linens and all the hallmarks of a maximalists eye for design. Bespoke cabinetry to the kitchen & a petit antique french greenhouse always catch the eye of visitors, and as the home of a cook & former food stylist, the kitchen is well equipped!

As a writer, cook and host with an insatiable appetite for brocante fairs & vintage finds, my days are spent conjuring recipes, penning tales of edible adventures and sourcing products & brands to work with. Having worked previously as a food stylist and with a passion for turning houses into homes, I’ve spent a lifetime raising my family in amongst a creative lifestyle and busy kitchen. A novice kitchen gardener & a beginner with blooms, these nonetheless capture my attention across all seasons, gathering harvests & poking vases full of pretty stems.
